A free lunch will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at the Clinton Church of God Fellowship Hall, 405 Buchanan Road, Normalville. Available will be chicken noodle soup and ham salad sandwiches.

• March 18 at 11 a.m., Saturday Morning Special — a ministry for those with special needs of all ages. On the menu is sloppy joes.

• March 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Blue Plate Special luncheon. Soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage. Free with donations accepted. Donations of $5 are accepted for takeouts.

Paradise United Methodist Church, 105 Hoke Road, Mt. Pleasant, will host its ham and beef dinner Saturday, March 18 from 3-6 p.m.

The dinner is take-out only and must be purchased by Sunday, March 12. Call 724-887-6148 for tickets. Cost is $15 for adults and $6 for children.

Included in the meal: Ham, beef, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, green beans, applesauce, cole slaw, bread/butter and a piece of cake.

The Chief Tanacharison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists will meet for a luncheon at 11:45 a.m., March 18 at the Dairy Queen on East Crawford Avenue in Connellsville.

The guest speaker will be Judy Keller who will talk about her book “Respect, Honor, Remember.”

The book tells about Connellsville veterans who made he supreme sacrifice during World War II.

A Lenox reunion will be held 6 p.m. March 18 at the Bridgeport Sportsmen’s Club. Covered dishes are welcome. There will be a cash bar and 50-50 raffle.

The Christian Church of Connellsville, 212 S. Pittsburgh St., has scheduled a chicken and biscuit dinner 4 to 7 p.m. March 18. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Meals feature chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy, specialty green beans, coleslaw or applesauce, homemade dessert and beverage. Takeouts are available by calling 724-628-3802.

The Holy Name Society at St. Rita Church in Connellsville is sponsoring as pancake, buckwheat and sausage breakfast 7 to 11:30 a.m. March 19 in Bucci Hall on South First Street. Price is $7 for adults and $2 for children younger than 12.

The Greater Scottdale Area Choral Society will be singing “Glad Easter Praises” in concerts coming soon. Among other selections their program will include some favorite arrangements of sacred traditional hymns and gospel music such as the “Fly Away Medley” and “Elijah Rock”. The dates and times for the concerts are:

• March 19 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 224 Summit St. Mt. Pleasant

• March 26 at Cochran Memorial UMC, 211 Griscom St., Dawson

All concerts begin at 7 pm and admission is free. Donations to the free will offering support the continued programs of the Choral Society. Members of the Choral Society represent almost all of the local area, and new members are invited to join when the next season begins in September.

Connellsville Chapter No. 247 Order of Eastern Star will hold its annual smorgasbord hot food buffet 6 p.m. March 20 at the Pleasant Valley Masonic Center, 530 Pleasant Valley Road, Connellsville.

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 11. Children younger than 5 eat for free. Gift auction tickets are available at an additional cost.

The Sons and Daughters of Italy Ladies Lodge No. 1686 of Connellsville will meet 6 p.m. March 21 at Keedy’s. Upcoming events will be discussed.

Central Fellowship Church, 316 N. Arch St., Connellsville, has scheduled a free community lunch 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 25. Menu features sausage gravy and biscuit, scalloped potatoes, applesauce and jello.

St. Rita Christian Mothers will sponsor a Lenten Day of Recollection for all women of the area on March 26, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at St. Rita Church in Connellsville. The retreat master for the program will be Deacon William Newhouse. The day will include devotions, Rosary, benediction (no Mass) and a catered dinner. Fee for the day is $20. St. Rita Christian Mothers will sell Easter bread (plain, anise and raisin) and cinnamon rolls beginning at 9 a.m. March 25 until sold out in the St. Rita Social Hall.

Breakneck Church of God will hold a chili cookoff 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 25 at its fellowship hall at 816 Breakneck Road, Connellsville. Cost is $10 for adults and kids 12 and younger $5.

There will be a variety of chili to sample. It’s all you can eat.

There will also be apple pie, ice cream, coffee and cold drinks.

Chill to go will be available. Sample the chili and pick two favorites.

Catholic Daughters of American will March 28 at Bucci Hall at 6 p.m.

Bluegrass is back and better than ever on stage at The Dawson Opry at the Brownfield Community Center, 291 Banning Road in Dawson. Dates are April 1 and May 6. Music begins at 6 p.m. There is a $3 admission.

FCCAA Offers Free Tax Services

UNIONTOWN, PA — Fayette County Community Action Agency, Inc. (FCCAA) is once again offering The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs.

These programs offer free tax preparation to qualified individuals and senior citizens.

Taxes are prepared by trained volunteers who must pass IRS tax law courses. The VITA and TCE programs are offered at the Uniontown Mall and are operating now until mid-April.

This is a free tax service provided by United Way of Southwestern PA, Fayette County Community Action Agency, and the IRS.

Walk-ins cannot be accommodated, and appointments are required.

The Carpathian Cookery cookbook, has entered its 21st printing, having sold over 20,000 copies, is available for sale.
